Core concepts

How a CovaNode workspace is organized — from the organization down to a single record.

Everything in CovaNode lives in a simple hierarchy. Once you know these five building blocks, the rest of the product is easy to find.

Building blockWhat it isExample
OrganizationYour company's workspace. Members, plan, billing and settings belong here.Acme Trading
SpaceAn area for one team or process. Shows in the sidebar under My spaces.Sales, Projects, HR
DatabaseA collection of records of the same kind, with the fields you define.Customers, Quotes
RecordOne item in a database. Each record has a title and values for every field."Al Noor Company"
ViewA saved way to look at a database's records: table, board, calendar and more."Open quotes" board

Organization

When you sign up you create an organization and give it a name. You can belong to more than one organization and switch between them from the menu at the top of the sidebar. Each organization has its own plan, members and data.

Spaces

A space groups everything one team needs. Inside a space you can create:

  • Databases for structured data,
  • Documents for written content,
  • Whiteboards for visual brainstorming.

Each space has an Overview page that lists its databases, whiteboards and documents. You can start a space blank, from a template, or by describing it to the AI assistant. A space can be archived (hidden but kept) or restricted to specific members.

Databases and records

A database is like a smart spreadsheet with types. Every database starts with a Name field for the record title, plus built-in fields such as the record ID, Created by, Creation date and Modification date. You add your own fields — numbers, dates, single and multi select, people, files, relations to other databases, formulas and more. See Fields.

Records can link to records in other databases with a Relation field. For example, a quote links to a customer and to the products it contains. That is what turns separate lists into one connected system.

Views

A view decides how records are shown, which fields are visible, and how they are filtered and sorted. One database can have many views — for example All records as a table and By status as a board. Changing a record in one view changes it everywhere. See Views.

Members and roles

People join an organization with a role that decides what they can do:

RoleCan do
OwnerEverything, including organization settings and billing.
AdminManage members, spaces, databases, automations, reports and integrations.
BuilderCreate and edit spaces and databases, and manage automations, reports and dashboards.
MemberCreate, view and edit records.
ViewerView records.
GuestView what has been shared with them.

Note

Spaces and individual documents can be restricted further. Detailed guides for members and permissions are coming soon.
